Midway Mercantile Dinner Wines
Thank you for joining us at Midway Mercantile for another fantastic dinner created by Chef John! We were thrilled to be invited back for our third Parallel Wines' dinner — each one has felt more like a family gathering than an event. Utah has been home to our Parallel Napa Valley Founding Partners for 50 years, so pouring our wines alongside Chef John's cooking always feels like a homecoming. We're grateful to everyone who came out, and we're already looking forward to the next one.
The Parallel Napa Valley label captures the essence of the lines carved by skis on the first run of the day. The Founding Partners wanted their 40+ years of friendship and life in Park City to be reflected in the wine. The label has served to reflect the 27 years of friendship, planting, tending, harvesting and making wines with famed winemaker, Philippe Melka, and his Atelier Melka Team, from the parallel rows of vines floating across hillside vineyards in Napa Valley and the Sonoma Valley.

Winemaker Philippe Melka's Tasting Notes
"The 2024 is our second bottling of Parallel Rutherford Rosé, made the same way as the first: Provençal in style, pale, dry, with bright acid and a streak of minerality. The aromas run to wild strawberry, watermelon, and Rainier cherry, with a little stone fruit and herbes de Provence underneath. Grapefruit shows up on the finish. Drink it now and keep drinking it through spring and summer."

"This exquisite Burgundian-style 2022 Chardonnay was whole cluster pressed and fermented in French oak barrels for 16 months sur lie with no malolactic fermentation. It has lively aromas of lemon and orange blossom that jump from the glass complemented by light tropical notes and a touch of sweet French barrel oak. Bright acid, great minerality and richness on the palate give way to a hint of lemon curd on the finish."

"The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon with 5% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it shoots from the glass with intense notes of black cherries and juicy black currants, leading to hints of dried herbs, pencil shavings, and iron-rich soils. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with bright blackberry flavors and savory accents, supported by lightly chewy tannins and bags of freshness, finishing on a mineral note."

"This wine is a fantastic representation of the vintage, showcasing a rich, darker, and sweeter aroma with hints of dried herbs, mocha, blackberry, dark cherry, and blueberry. On the palate, it offers a velvety texture, smooth tannins, a touch of sweetness, and a blend of spices and herbs alongside dark plum flavors. The wine has a nice richness, balanced by a refreshing acidity that adds to its texture and depth. It's medium- to full-bodied, silky and ripe but nicely balanced and structured, with a long finish that carries echoes of crushed stone. Impressive."

In order to ensure the best experience with our wines, please store them in a cool, dark, dry place; Cabernets ideally at 55-60F and Chardonnays at 40-50F. When opening, these wines may require decanting, especially if they are vintages 2003-2011. Please allow 30-120 minutes of decanting before enoying (the older the wine the longer it may take).
